The birth of a forest
Like the Kumulipo, the creation of our Hawaiian forests also starts in darkness, the darkness of lava. Hawaiian culture is similar to many nature worshiping cultures around the planet in our remembering of the stories of the plants. The stories of our gods and goddesses that inspire us and teach us the wealth of the forest and the importance of stewardship.
Kalaninuimehameha wants to immerse people into Hawaiian forests through art, culture, history, and most importantly living plants. Kalaninuimehameha through its Wailoa land restoration will be able to begin ecological balance at Wailoa perpetuating culture, and inspiring those upon its grounds. This portion of Kalaninuimehameha allows it to be a center of education and nursery for endemic Hawaiian plants for Hawai’i island and its people.
